This charming colonial house is settled in a quiet location in the heart of the Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

The greenery and fruit trees in the garden were pleasant to look at. A restful place where you can take a breather – in the the middle of a city where people are already going about their business just a few meters away from this house – that was one factor which made me decide in its favor.

The biggest room for doubles that I’ve stayed in Laos

The not so modern house was converted into a comfortable and quaint lodgings and it had big, airy rooms (the ensuite toilet was almost big enough for a single room, or even a double in some parts of Asia!). You can come back for some siesta if you’ve been visiting the tourist spots and need a respite from the heat and all that touring . Did I mention that there is a temple beside the entrance to Lani’s House by the Ponds too?

STAYING OUT LATE

The only con for us at that time, was that they close their gates earlier than I had expected. This does not mean you cannot come back and sleep in your room – but I did feel guilty disturbing the peace when we stayed past 10:30 pm due to a late dinner we attended.

We had to ring the gate bell and wake up their “night  watchman” who rested inside the hallway of the house. I suggest to those who come to this city and stay out very late, to instead chose their quarters more suited to be open at past 12 midnight – or you can come back in the morning *grin*.

BREAKFAST ON THE VERANDA

A good day starts with enjoying nature and your brekky from the veranda

Our breakfast was served by one of my own countrymen! – as far away as Laos seemed (and as a landlocked country too), I was somewhat surprised on the first morning we were there, that it was a fellow Filipino who greeted us!

Breakfast for two

The breakfast was simple and filling. I very much enjoyed the sweet fresh fruits, home-made yoghurt, and the fresh-from-the-market-veggies used as garnish to my omelette. Served amidst the open veranda sprinkled with sunny rays here and there, and facing the small garden dotted with gently bobbing flowers and small “ponds” of water, I appreciated eating here instead of indoors.

It might be hard to believe that only a few steps away on the road we could already walk to the wats and other spots that tourists were wont to visit.  The proximity of this place to several eating places on the same road was also something which racked up points for my rumbling stomach.

RECOMMENDATION:
I had an enjoyable stay here and would certainly recommend this to visitors who want to stay in the heart of Vientiane but prefer restful, clean and roomy quarters. Prices, service, location, cleanliness, quiet atmosphere? All check.

Stayed: October 2017.
